GSA Student Accommodation

GSA Student Accommodation, is an exemplar project for Adelaide, comprising student accommodation, associated student services and amenity spaces and a ground floor cafe. It offers a home for 725 student across 352 student apartments.

The GSA Student Accommodation project received a notable award at the Master Builders Awards South Australia 2022 as well as being a finalist in the National Master Builders Awards, both for the Commercial/Industrial Building $50m to $100m category.

Being located on North Terrace, Adelaide’s most prominent boulevard, the new student accommodation building sits amongst a variety of State Heritage listed buildings including the Universities of Adelaide and South Australia, the Old Royal Adelaide Hospital Buildings and Ayers House.

  • 122 metres high
  • 36 levels
  • 9K m2 facade area

The project is one of the tallest buildings in South Australia, with a focus on new types of student living in a collegiate environment, and a focus on the life and learning of students.
The revised proposal is a 36 storey (ground plus 35) mixed-use building comprising student accommodation, associated student services/amenity spaces and ground floor cafe.

GSA North Terrace is a technically complex building. The architectural facade precast columns are an important element of its iconic architectural appearance. The building is one of the highest precast concrete buildings in Australia.

Due to the small footprint and height of the building a tuned mass damper will be installed on the roof to minimise swaying of the building due to wind or earthquake impact. Another first for South Australia.
